About Dr. Atul Mathur

Dr. Atul Mathur serves as the Chief of the Cath Lab and Executive Director of Interventional Cardiology at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI), New Delhi.
He is also the President of the Indian Council for Carotid Therapeutics (ICCT), India, and is widely recognized as a pioneer in complex coronary interventions, with over 42 years of clinical experience.
Dr. Mathur is highly specialized in structural heart interventions, including TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), MitraClip, LAAO (Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion), BMV (Balloon Mitral Valvotomy), and adult VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) closure.
He is also an expert in endovascular procedures such as aortic graft stenting, carotid stenting, and peripheral arterial and venous angioplasty.
He completed his MBBS and MD from SMS Medical College, Jaipur, in 1983 and 1987 respectively, followed by a DM in Cardiology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
He has also trained at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA, gaining international exposure in advanced cardiac techniques.
Dr. Mathur holds the distinction of being the first Indian physician to receive a U.S. patent for a medical device used in Carotid Artery Stenting—a significant milestone in interventional cardiology.
He regularly organizes training programs and educational courses at his Center of Excellence, equipping Indian physicians with advanced skills in carotid and vascular interventions.
A prolific contributor to cardiac science, Dr. Mathur’s work has been widely published, with several hundred research papers recognized both nationally and internationally, reinforcing his role as a leading figure in interventional cardiology.
