About Dr. Vivek Vij

Dr. Vivek Vij is a renowned Surgical Gastroenterologist and Liver Transplant Surgeon with over 27 years of experience.
He is recognised as one of the leading liver transplant surgeons in India and is the founder of the Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Sciences department at Fortis Hospitals.
Dr. Vij and his team have collectively performed over 4,000 liver transplants, with a 97% patient success rate and a 100% donor success rate.
He holds the distinction of being the youngest liver transplant surgeon in India to have completed 800 independent liver transplants, with the lowest biliary complication rate.
Dr. Vij was the first liver surgeon from the Indian subcontinent to publish a series on laparoscopic donor hepatectomy in the prestigious Journal of Liver Transplantation.
He completed his MBBS from B.J. Medical College, Pune, in 1998.
He earned his MS in General Surgery from the Government. Medical College & Rajendra Hospital in 2001.
Dr. Vij also earned a DNB in General Surgery from the National Board of Examinations in New Delhi.
After that, MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, in 2003.
He received a Fellowship in Liver Transplant and Surgical Gastroenterology from Sir Ganga Ram City Hospital, New Delhi, in 2006.
Dr. Vij was honoured with a special award at the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) conference in Chicago in 2015.
He established a Fellowship program at Fortis Hospitals to train young surgeons and paramedical staff in liver transplantation.
Dr. Vij has published more than 50 scientific papers and has presented extensively on liver surgery and transplantation at both national and international conferences.
His key research areas include living donor liver transplantation and the medical management of patients with liver diseases.
His work has been published in top-tier journals, including the American Journal of Transplantation and Liver Transplantation.
He holds active registration with the Delhi Medical Council.
