- Dr. Narayanan has had an illustrious career in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), rising to the highest professional rank of Lieutenant General and serving as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff.
- He also held key appointments as Maj Gen, including Dy Commandant and Dean (Academics) at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral).
- Over his 20 years of service in tertiary care centers of the Armed Forces, he established robust neurology subspecialty programs, such as acute stroke care services, epilepsy surgery, and advanced therapies for multiple sclerosis.
- Dr. Narayanan was part of the pioneering team that performed the first Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) procedure in the Armed Forces in 2000 and has vast experience with advanced neuro-interventions like video EEG monitoring, thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, NCV, EMG, and botulinum toxin therapy for movement disorders.
- As a Professor of Neurology, he has guided MD (Medicine) and DNB (Neurology) students for over 15 years and served as an examiner, mentor, and research guide.
- He has actively contributed to the advancement of neurology as part of task forces at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and has been an assessor for the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
- Beyond his military and academic achievements, Dr. Narayanan was appointed Honorary Surgeon to the President of India in 2017.
- He has represented the AFMS at the highest levels, including presenting a pioneering telemedicine project for soldiers in remote combat areas to the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in 2017.
