Stroke Thrombolysis
Emergency clot-dissolving treatment given in the first hours of a stroke to restore blood flow to the brain.
Thrombolysis uses a clot-dissolving medicine to reopen a blocked artery in the brain. It is most effective when given within a few hours of symptoms starting, which is why stroke is treated as a medical emergency.
Recognising a stroke – act FAST
- Face – has it drooped on one side?
- Arms – can both arms be raised and held up?
- Speech – is it slurred or muddled?
- Time – call for an ambulance immediately
